About The Event
Relief is a sculptural method in which the sculpted pieces are attached to a solid background. The term relief is from the Latin verb “relevare”, to rise up. A sculpture in relief gives the impression that the sculpted material has been raised above the background plane. In Ikebana, relief refers to an arrangement style that involves hanging against a solid background such as a wall or picture frame. Traditional ikenobo shoka relief arrangements were hung on a tokonoma wall or post. Contemporary relief arrangements suit any environment. This workshop will create a freestyle relief arrangement with a Valentine theme. Example of arrangement is shown, actual workshop materials may be different. The floral materials, background and vase will be provided. Please bring your hasami and scissors.
