Arrangements in “Tsubo” Vases
A “Tsubo” vase is generally known as a vase which has a narrow
opening and wider, round body. It is more specifically defined as a vase
whose “rim diameter is wider than the size of your fist and the body
diameter is 1.5 times more or wider than its rim. There are three ways to
“Dome” (fix the branches) which will be demonstrated in this class:
“Kousa Dome” (splitting and interlocking the relatively thick Shin and
Soe), “Kugi-uchi Kousa-dome” (Fixing by crossing and nailing), and
“Yoko-ichimonji Dome” (Horizontal-single bar fixture). These methods
provide for a firm, stable base upon which to arrange the rest of your
composition. Tsubo arrangements have unique beauty, and can be
created for locations where larger arrangements would enhance the
space.
Bring:
Water to drink, a bucket, sturdy garden shears, a cloth for cleaning and a small
bowl for cutting stems. Materials will be provided. Bring your own
container, however some suitable vases will be offered at low cost for
each class.
