Mrs. Fusako Seiga Hoyrup, a principal teacher of wafu ikebana and president of the school's California Chapter, is devoted to the study and teaching of ikebana. In 2020, she celebrated the 50th anniversary of her establishment of the California chapter of the wafu school.
Born and educated in Japan, Mrs. Hoyrup has been affiliated with the wafu school since 1957. She studied ikebana under the personal direction of the late headmaster, Wafu Teshigahara, before she relocated to the United States. She holds a shukan degree, the highest achievement level in the wafu school. Internationally, Mrs. Hoyrup has lectured and given demonstrations in Australia, Brazil, India, Denmark, and South Africa, as well as in the United States. She is an active member of the San Francisco Chapter of Ikebana International as well as the Ikebana Teachers Federation. Mrs. Hoyrup has been on the board of directors and has served as the president of the Ikebana Teachers Federation.
Mrs. Hoyrup has taught and mentored hundreds of students during many decades of teaching ikebana. Under her guidance and high artistic and technical standards in the art of ikebana, many of her students throughout the world have become artists and teachers in their own right.
